Time Banks of the Ouse is an exciting new project which aims to reduce social isolation and encourage a sense of community. The ethos is that everyone, regardless of age or ability, has something to give. Lack of finance or mobility is no barrier to participating.
A time bank is a way for people to share skills and interests with others and be rewarded for it in time. For every hour of time given, a participant ‘deposits’ time in the bank - which can then be ‘withdrawn’ when they need something doing.
One hour of everyone’s time is equal regardless of the activity, and you do as much or as little as you want. Read more here.
The list of ‘gives’ and ‘wants can cover a huge variety of activities including: dog walking, ironing, gardening, DIY, help with shopping, lifts, baking a cake, companionship and befriending, to name a few.
The two Time Brokers for this project, Lennard Anderson and David Clarke, are responsible for recording time credits and matching requests between participants. They are also currently developing various group activities, such as regular coffee mornings where time credits can be gained by just turning up. It’s that easy!
